Hurst: We Need Change, Davis: Stay the Course

Bryan Scrafford from Ambivalent Mumblings, put up a great post today, Hurst Campaign Recognizes Need For Change, Davis Remains Loyal to Bush.

Bryan was given an original statement from the Andy campaign for this piece and is coupled with great analysis by Bryan.

Unfortunately for the residents of Virginia’s 11th district, Tom Davis falls is one of the Republicans who blindly support President Bush’s policies on foreign affairs. On June 16, 2006, for instance, Tom Davis voted in favor of H. Res. 861. The resolution stated that it would be inappropriate to discuss any policy in Iraq besides staying the course. Furthermore, during a June 16 speech delivered on the floor of the House of the Representatives, Tom Davis all but declared that the terrorists would prevail if there was even discussion about whether or not Bush’s “Stay the Course” strategy was correct.

I found it very interesting that I got an extremely quick response from Andy's campaign, but didn't even receive a "no comment" response from the Davis campaign.

Since I am one of Davis's constituents, one would assume that his campaign would be interested in what I have to say -- even if it is constructive criticism. Nonetheless, his campaign hasn't returned any of the emails I've sent.

Although I would like to hear what Davis has to say about certain topics, I would even settle for a "Thank you for your email, but we don't have any comment." At least that way Davis's campaign would be showing some respect for the concerns of one of his constituents.

if you're after comments, maybe you should try his district or house office, which would respond, not his campaign office. you're looking in the wrong places. but you already knew that - and by passing it off as getting no response you're making it seem like the people in power are the bad guys. his campaign doesn't have a duty to respond to you. his official office does.

Anonymous, I appreciate the thought, and his district office should be able to respond. However, so should his campaign office. Every candidate for office should be able to state unequivically that Hastert should step aside, and that the Ethics Committee needs to be restored to the power it had before Hastert fired three Ethics Committee members after they admonished DeLay.(Hastert fired them - wait -isn't he the guy they have to investigate now?)

I can't help but think the Ethics Committee members are shakin' in their boots, just as Hastert would like it!

The Ethics Committee has jurisdiction over "admonishing" participants and enablers. (Nothing beats strong language in response to pedophilia and conspiracy!) But, it is Davis's Reform Committee that has power to review how the oversight system failed the pages and how a cover up flourished.
